A statement piece gives the room an anchor. It might be a table, chair, cabinet, artwork, or light fixture, but it should clearly carry the tone of the space.
Once the anchor is chosen, repeat one or two of its details elsewhere. A similar wood tone, metal finish, or textile texture can make the room feel considered without becoming overly matched.
Let supporting pieces stay quieter. The goal is balance: enough contrast to keep the room interesting, enough restraint to make it easy to live with.
